FAQs
What should I send for my recordings?
Please send two contrasting audio or video clips of at least 1 minute in length. They can be anything in which we can clearly hear your voice, and that you feel shows it at its best. The audio clips could be a song or an aria, an unaccompanied folk song or an a cappella solo lead, for example. We would recommend that you choose repertoire from two different genres of music. Edited submissions cannot be accepted.
How do I send my recordings in?
What should I write in my cover letter?
Your cover letter is an opportunity for us to get to know you and to understand why you are interested in the VOCES8 Soprano position. In addition, it is an opportunity for you to talk about anything which you feel is relevant to your application in addition to your CV and recording.
What happens once I send in my application?
After the closing date, we will be in touch by Monday 16th February 2026 to let you know whether you will be invited to audition.
We will be holding three rounds of auditions for this position; the first round will be a solo singing session led by our Artistic Director, Barnaby Smith.
Successful candidates will then be invited to a second round.
Shortlisted candidates for round three will be invited to London for interviews, rehearsals and a short private performance with VOCES8 to an invited audience.
What vocal range would I be expected to sing as a VOCES8 Soprano?
As a Soprano in VOCES8, you would be expected to cover the range A3-C6.
Do you provide travel expenses for the auditions?
Unfortunately we cannot provide expenses for rounds one and two, but travel and accommodation costs will be covered for the final round auditions in London.
Is this role a full time position?
Yes, singing in VOCES8 is a full time, salaried position. The group typically works around 230-240 days per annum.
Do I need to live in London to be a member of VOCES8?
No, you do not need to live in London to be a member of VOCES8, and many of our current members live outside of London. It is advised that members live within a sensibly commutable distance to London.
Is there an age limit for the position?
No, there is no age limit for the position. Applicants must be 18 years of age or above to apply.
What should I do if I have any questions that aren’t answered above?
